Videos and Webpage Created to Help You Understand the Farm Bill and Upcoming Decisions

Jun 02, 2014

Dr. G. Art Barnaby, Jr., professor, Agricultural Economics, Kansas State University, presented “2014 Farm Bill: Commodity and Crop Insurance Programs” to Farm Credit Services of America (FCSAmerica) on May 19, 2014. This presentation was recorded and is available to view at on our dedicated 2014 Farm Bill webpage. You can also find the video by searching Farm Credit Services of America at YouTube.

The bill, formally named the Agriculture Act of 2014, was signed into law in February. As a result, a number of very important decisions regarding commodity programs and insurance will need to be made by producers. See the graphic to see the significant decisions producers will face. Final rules and interpretations are yet to come from the USDA, FSA and RMA. Estimated dates for decisions are summer 2014 for payment yields and base acres and after September 1, 2014 for commodity program enrollment. The Supplemental Coverage Option will have the same sales closing date as the respective crop’s underlying MPCI policy.

In addition to the Barnaby video, our dedicated webpage provides other information and resources to help you better understand the farm bill provisions, Commodity Title specifics and crop insurance changes and options.
